Finly dice about 1/3 cup of onion (red or white) and add it, as well as about 1/4 c sunflower seeds and about 1/3-1/2 cup of raisins.
I "have" to make this for our church pot lucks and rarely bring any
home.
Hi Ruth!
Thanks for sharing this tip. That sounds a lot like how my
grandmother made broccoli salad. I always ate a lot of that. I think
she may have used golden raisins. I ate some grocery store broccoli
salad that
clearly used lemon juice and i thought that worked well too.
I've tried various versions over the last 20 years or so and this is the
one we like the best. It's funny reading some organisation (church,
club, etc) cook books and seeing half a dozen or so variations on the
salad. The most common varient seems to be putting cheese in it but that
makes it non dairy free so I leave it out. I will use golden raisins for
a change up but keep the dark ones on hand for regular use so tend to
grab them more often than buying the golden ones.

Catch you later,
Ruth
