• March Plans?

From niter3@21:1/199 to poindexter FORTRAN on Wed Mar 5 07:34:03 2025
I hate my office wall color, it's a pale blue along with the rest of the house. I'd like to go for a neutral gray, especially with me working on camera from home, but I have an antique armoire I had to screw into the wall and wouldn't be able to paint around it. I'd like a door, have a doorway but nowhere for the door to go.

It's not too bad, I'm alone during the day so there are no
interruptions, but it opens up to the living room and noisy keyboards aren't appreciated after business hours.

    Got'cha...

My plan is to re-stud to put in new plugs, run ethernet, run new lighting, sound proof between the laundry room and office, and put a door on the office as I mentioned.

We have 3 young kids at home, and they can get loud at times....

I've got the opposite problem - I'm the one making the noise. :)

If I do any work to the office, I'll want to build a server enclosure
somewhere so I can put my noisy NAS somewhere.

Going to try and finish my training on Ansible, I'm halfway there.

You just training on ansible itself, or for something like RCSE that requires ansible knowledge?

I've been doing some myself over the last two years. That exam is a difficult one in 4 hours.

Good luck with your traning however you doing it.

Luckly, I managed to put my server rack in a small utility room in my basement.

I have a storage area - I used to run the BBS on bare metal in there
over PowerLine Ethernet. It wouldn't take a whole lot to run a couple of Ethernets from there to my bedroom, where the modem is...

I used to use powerline ethernet as well. When I had lived in my house (which I sold in a divorce), the powerline ethernet connection dropped every so often; the wiring in that house may have been spotty. In the apartment I live in now, I used powerline ethernet for a while to connect my fiber ONT to my office room, and it seemed fairly reliable in my apartment. I was using fairly fast powerline ethernet adapters (some of the fastest rated on the market), and at the time, I think I was getting around 150 megabit through them, which I felt was plenty, as my internet was 100 megabit at the time. But I've since upgraded my internet speed (I have gigabit for the time being), and I bought a very long ethernet cable and ran it down the hall to the closet in the other room where the ONT is. I bought some small cable ducting/raceway pieces for the ethernet cable too, so it doesn't look too janky down the hall, and some pieces which have sticky sides which go up the door frame & on the wall... I'll have to remove all that when I move out, and I hope it won't cause much of an asthetic issue when they're peeled off..

My house has 2 breaker boxes. As long as the powerline adapters were on
the same breaker box, they were rock solid. Cable modem to BBS was rock
solid, around 120 mbps. Cable modem to my office was dodgy, same thing
    - you'd need to reset them once a month or so, and I only got 40 mbps
    through them.

I wish it would. My office has a weird wall, the door opening is on a
cutout at an angle to the main wall with nowhere for the wall to slide
    into.

    Same boat here
Multiple noisy racks - new property has two dwellings, so I claimed the
second one as my office, tech / server room, and the workshop will be the
other end (once I get it emptied from the piles of boxes and stuff still packed)...

Wife does have a desk in the office - which is great! But until I sort out
the noisy rack (closing up the wall, adding doors, sound reduction, and additional AC), she doesn't use the space that much.

Many renovations to happen - many dollars and hours required... Just working though some debt reduction at the moment before I start spending $$$...

March got much busier than we expected.

We got a deal on getting our walls painted, so we're dealing with that disruption.

Then our chest freezer died unexpectedly. So that's getting replaced Tues.

Hopefully the rest of our March is less "interesting".

Ouch - yeah, that's interesting for sure! All go smoothly?

I know for me, I have a ton of work to do on my cars. My wife's car has
a bad emissions sensor that needs replacement... my 87 Mercury and 78
Ford both have some rust issues I need to take care of..

My wife has TWO O2 sensors to be replaced. I can't crawl under like I used to so her Uncle and his grandson are going to do it. Parts are there, along with
a pully that is replacing a bad one. :-)

Last night, I did replace some wire connectors in the truck with Anderson PowerPole. Man those are nice!!! Also added a hard wired USB-C dual power
port so I don't have to use a seperate inverter for charging my iPhone
(now a mag mount) and my Laptop/iPad.

I have a HAM tower I'm planning to put up - picking up the ground rod
    today...

March is the beginning of "yardwork season" here. I've got plenty of
tree limbs to trim up, sticks to gather, and general cleanup outside.
Late in the month will be the first grass mowing and fertilizer application.

Since it's starting to warm up enough to be tolerable outside, I'll
also be heading to the shooting range more often, for rifle/pistol practice and Skeet/Sporting Clays fun.

I pay the guy down the road to mow. It's not a 'fun chore' anymore. LOL

I have metal targets in the back yard though - so my range is 'my back
    yard.' :-)

Well, hopefully this cold weather will break. I have had both my knees replaced over the last 2 years. I'm going to put them to the test this year. My goal is to ride 2,500 miles on my bike in 6 months. So Hopefully, I will be able to start in March!

WOW! Good luck! How did it go?

I get shots in both knees and now one hip. Turns out the worst part about
the knees was coming from the different walk you do with a bad hip.

Doc says a hip replacement is in my near future...

Not going to bad! I have about 200 miles in (damn rain) and the knees feel awesome!

I was getting the shots and ended up paying for the jell shots which lasted for about 8 months.

Yeah I get cortizone shots every 2 or 3 months, but twice I year I get
the gel shots now. My insurance pays for it, but it's a 3 injection
process. I pay $45 a visit copay and it covers both knees, but with it
    being three... well... :-)

    Glad yours is doing good!!!
