Anyone get anything worth noting from Santa?
Anyone get anything worth noting from Santa?
hmmm... nothing much... he sent me a cheap 76key (60+%) keyboard. He probably noticed that i am trying to make an old/new style home micro
with a rpi0 :) If he just sent me a tft screen also, it would be
complete :) hahaha
Bought myself a new (to me) Moog guitar pedal. Oh, and Frusciante is
back in the Chili Peppers, which is a Christmas gift we can all
celebrate!
Yeah, but will he stay is the question.
My kids got me some great Vinyl.
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Tragically Hip - Up to Here
Nirvana - Live at Reading
Rage Against the Machine - Live at the Grand Olympic Auditorium
Nice! I collect vinyl as well, but my collection is mostly jazz, big band swing, and old Crooners like Sinatra. :P
What are you trying to build? I just used the keyboard and case from a broken c64 and added a rpi3 running BCM64 which is a bare metal C64 Vice implementation of the C64/128/Vic20/Plus 4. Awesome project.
Because i don't have the screen yet, i will go with the micro home computer first and after i gather the materials (screen, battery,
charger, converter etc.) i will make the cyberdeck thing.... hopefully :)
I recently added a Commodore SX-64 to my collection and want to build the cyberdeck that looks like it, the one the Element 14 dude put together.
Ah yes... i have seen the youtube video with the construction of it. Nice piece of machine :) But i like better the Atari/Amiga-ish style. I had an Amstrad when i was young, so the "all-in-one-keyboard-machine" style is more appealing to me :)
You guys had a much wider selection of 8 bit machines than we did over here in North America.
I always wanted a Spectrum and an Amstrad but I'm not prepared to spent $100+ on shipping via ebay.
Atari's, Amigas and C64/128s I have a plenty, it's those European
machines I crave. I guess it's true what they say, the grass is greener
on the other side!
Even now, if you get an Amiga in a good price, the stuff you need to fix and add, have a respectful cost... also you must have knowledge to
restore the machines.
It would be cheaper to make a trip to Europe, pick some machines and go back... hahahaha :)
I guess it's true what they say, you are never happy with what you have
:) For sure there are many home micros of that era, but most of them, didn't have much of success. If you have an Amiga, Atari, C64,
CPC464/6128 and spectrum, then you have 90% of the home micro history...
i think. Those were the most successful.
We were quite lucky here in Canada, the Amiga was a very popular machine.

You can add the BBC Micro to that list as well.
Plus finding Amiga's in Canada now is like panning for gold. Especially
if you want anything beyond a A500. Took me years to finally get one a
few months ago for a sane price. Mind you the money into expansions I've put into it but it's my only one so I'm tricking the shit out it.
Well maybe your part of Canada :D I only knew one person with one and I was the only person rocking an Atari ST at the time. Everyone else was
all PC with the occasional Apple II straggler. Although I did grow up in backwoods so computers were still a magic box.:D
We just had the World of Commodore a few weeks back here in Toronto and you could have found yourself a great deal. I picked up a Vectrex, a Commodore SX-64 and an Amiga 1000 with a 1082 monitor for $900, which I think was a great deal, especially for the 1000 and the SX-64.

Still in the hole the ex-roommate left me in...but where would I find stuff like this in Oregon?
Google for vintage computer festivals or meetups near you, you always
find deals there.
There is a big one near you, in Seattle, VCF Pacific Northwest. Though, near you is recitative to where in Oregon you are.
The Toronto PET users group (TPUG) meets monthly in Toronto as well. You can always find deals there.
We should get all the local-ish Sysops to meet up there one day.
I know Nick is always trying to get us all together for a drink, might be worth the drive to Toronto to meet up.

Mmmmm...would be a nice 6 hr trip from here.
Ah good to know, and that's a pretty good idea. I'm sure I could swing something some weekend once the weather is nicer.
It is one of the larger shows around. There tons of people who attend
with lots to sell.
What are you looking for specifically? I can keep my eye for you.
Been looking for a C64 Breadbin/64C-white/C128/VIC-20/AMIGA 500-1200
case with a keyboard to be able to set up VICE or Amibian with an RPI. Doesn't even need a motherboard...just the case with an intact keyboard.
I come across a lot of Vic-20/64s/C64s. The very in price but the
usually go for, depending on their condition, $50-$150 Canadian.
As for Amigas, you are looking in the $250-$300 range for a 500.
That's better than anything I've found online...especially just wanting the case/keyboard to setup my own system with VICE or Amibian.
